For kids, Halloween is the highlight of the fall season. It's all about the creepy costume, hanging out with friends, and trick-or-treating from house to house. Though all kids clamor for Halloween candy, they often bring in more than they can eat. How many times have you gotten to December only to finally throw out the leftover candy that your kids never finished?
When trick-or-treat treat time rolls round, kids will enjoy bringing home a treat bag that holds more than the usual fun-sized candy bars, lollipops, and bubble gum. (And parents will appreciate less sugary treats.) When you're shopping for Halloween hand-outs, consider looking outside the candy aisle.
The following suggestions from Sears Imported Autos are Halloween treats that will please kids and parents alike:
1. Juice Boxes — After all that trick-or-treat activity, thirsty kids are happy to pull a juice box out of their treat bag. It may even refresh them enough to visit a few more houses before calling it a night.
2. Fruit Snacks — Fruit roll-ups or packets of chewy fruit snacks are a sweet alternative to candy treats. Kids will enjoy snacking on these fruity snacks and parents won't mind packing them in school lunches after the holiday.
3. Snack Crackers or Pretzels — Snack crackers come in several varieties: packets of crackers, individually wrapped cheese and cracker sandwiches, or crackers with spreadable cheese. Packets of pretzels also make a great Halloween treat.
4. Granola Bars — As a healthier alternative to candy bars, granola bars can still be sweet. Try Quaker® Chewy granola bars in chocolate-chip or s'more-flavored varieties. Sometimes you can find Halloween-themed granola bars that come with orange and black sprinkles.
5. Microwave Popcorn — Individually wrapped packets of microwave popcorn are a fun treat that will stand out from the usual Halloween candy. Older kids will like having a treat they can make for themselves (with supervision).
6. Small Halloween Toys — Party stores and online sites like Oriental Trading Company offer a wide variety of Halloween-themed toys. You can choose from mini-yoyos, spin tops, bouncy balls, plastic spider rings, and much more. Or buy a variety and let kids choose their favorites.
7. Stickers or Tattoos — Kids of all ages love stickers and temporary tattoos. Look for Halloween themes like pumpkins, spiders, skulls, and ghosts. Glow-in-the-dark stickers are extra fun. Buy enough to give out a few to each trick-or-treater and keep any leftovers to hand out the following year.
