For most of the world's automakers, the 2019 model year has just begun, but Mercedes-Benz is already leading the pack with the all-new 2020 GLE. Now, we have the first images of this ground-breaking new SUV to tantalize your luxury desires until it arrives in the spring.
The next-generation GLE will offer a longer wheelbase than the previous generation, which means it will also offer an available third row of seating, so even more passengers can enjoy this ultra-modern luxury experience. Mercedes-Benz will offer the GLE in three trim levels: the 350 and 350 4MATIC, as well as the premium 450 4MATIC (pictured). The 350 and 350 4MATIC will both feature a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine that produces 255 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. The upper-tier 450 4MATIC will blast forth with a new 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder turbo engine with EQ Boost, producing an astonishing 362 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The 450's EQ Boost uses an Integrated-Starter Generator (ISG) for energy recuperation, adding a noticeable 21 horses to the output.
The 450 4MATIC also offers a one-of-a-kind E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL suspension, which uses Road Surface Scan and a curve inclination function to virtually feel the road and intuitively react. The end result is one of the smoothest rides in the industry. As if that's not impressive enough, the new Free-driving mode can automatically rock the GLE free in tricky terrains by raising and lowering the suspension level if the vehicle becomes bogged down.
Inside, the cutting-edge Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) offers innovative infotainment and control features. Navigation, phone functions, entertainment features, and the GLE's 4-zone automatic climate control system can all be controlled through the vivid touchscreens, effortlessly through voice commands, or even through the innovative new MBUX Interior Assistant, which supports operating intentions by recognizing hand and arm movements.
