It says a lot about an automaker when its name is used as a cliché expression for all things top of the line. If someone tells you that you’re staying in the “Mercedes-Benz of hotels,” you’ll know that you’re in for a night to remember. If someone says you’re about to eat the “Mercedes-Benz of pizzas,” you should get excited for the best slice of pie you’ve ever tasted. When this automaker set out to make the Mercedes-Benz of electric vehicles, it set its sights on nothing less than the very best.
Mercedes-Benz first teased the development of this innovation at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, and over the past couple of years, the public has heard rumors about road testing and delivery dates. The time has come and the EQC has arrived. The first Mercedes-Benz under the brand EQ (which symbolizes the brand’s devotion to Emotional Intelligence), the 2019 EQC offers the first giant leap in the automaker’s epic journey towards the future of all-electric mobility.
Modern Innovations Under the Hood.
The EQC is all-electric, so forget about paying at the pump. This modern marvel uses two asynchronous electric motors, one on the front axle and one on the rear, to provide power to all wheels, intelligently distributing power between axles as needed. Those two motors combine for a maximum power output of over 400 horsepower and 564 lb-ft of instant torque. Plus, you won’t have to sacrifice exhilaration for efficiency, because the EQC can launch from 0 to 60 in just 4.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 112 mph, all without a drop of gasoline and zero emissions.
Charging the EQC is as simple as charging a smartphone. Using a water-cooled onboard charger (OBC) with a capacity of 7.4 kW, drivers can enjoy simple and fast AC charging at home or at public charging stations. These charging stations are becoming more common in public spaces as businesses and local governments recognize the benefits of installing them and offering them for free. Alternatively, EQC owners can install a DC charging station at home and enjoy even faster charge times, charging from 10 to 80% in just 40 minutes. Once fully charged, the EQC’s cutting-edge 80 kWh lithium-ion battery can go as far as 279 miles.*
Mercedes-Benz Luxury to the Bone
The EQC doesn’t just represent innovation in power; on the outside, Mercedes-Benz designers sculpted an avant-garde electric look, which embodies the brand’s new design idiom of Progressive Luxury. The nose offers a large black-panel surface with optical fibers creating a visual link to the torch-like daytime running lamps. This crossover SUV emerges with an extended roofline and window layout, with a low shoulder line and the coupe-like silhouette. The futuristic style continues inside with a high-tech, high gloss housing for instrumentation, infotainment, and climate controls, including rectangular air vents with key-shaped, rose-gold colored louvers.
As for amenities, drivers and passengers in the EQC will enjoy the leading edge of comfort and safety tech from Mercedes-Benz engineers. Drivers can pre-climatize the interior for maximum comfort upon entering the extremely quiet and spacious cabin. The latest version of the one-of-a-kind Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) multimedia system will offer unrivaled connectivity features, whether it’s wireless entertainment on the inside or direct personal roadside assistance from a dedicated concierge staff. When you’re away, you can stay connected to your vehicle using the Mercedes me app on your compatible smartphone. With the app, you can easily monitor vehicle vitals like battery charge or control vehicle functions like cabin climate or remote start. The EQC will also offer the Driver Assistance Package, which includes active safety systems that can take control of the vehicle and save lives.
There are too many innovative features to present here, so Sears Imported Autos will present more details of the incredible new 2019 Mercedes-Benz EQC as the crossover SUV hits stores in the coming weeks.
