Sometimes we wonder what’s in the water over at Mercedes-Benz HQ. The fabled German automaker is no stranger to luxury. But recently, Mercedes-Benz and tuning arm AMG® have been very busy pushing the limits of automotive engineering. How so you ask? Well say hello to the 2015 Mercedes-AMG® C63.
Despite a slight reshuffle in naming convention, the 2015 Mercedes-AMG® C63 is a bona fide fire-breathing sport sedan powered by a 4.0-liter V8 engine. If that engine sounds familiar that’s because it is. The C63 uses the same new-age tuning AMG® used for the recently-launched Mercedes-AMG® GT.
Like the AMG® GT, the C63 will be offered in two states of tune: The “standard” – and we use the term very loosely – model will generate 469 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of delicious torque. Mercedes-Benz says the 3,615 pound sedan will be able to propel itself from 0-62 mph in a mere four seconds flat. That’s nothing to sneeze at—until you realize that the C63 S will produce 503 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.
As for transmission and drivetrain, the Mercedes-AMG® C63 and C63 S will send power to the rear wheels via a seven-speed AMG® Speedshift dual-clutch transmission. This is no ordinary transmission though, and word from Germany is that it has been tuned to offer even faster reaction times. Considering this is Mercedes-Benz and AMG® talking, we’re more than inclined to believe them.
Like the AMG® GT, the C63 uses dynamic engine mounts, and along with its three-stage adjustable damping system, features four AMG® Dynamic Select driver-selectable modes: Controlled Efficiency, Sport, Sport+ and Race.
The car will ride on either 18- (C63) or 19-inch (C63 S) wheels. Ceramic-composite brakes are available, and there's even an optional performance exhaust that delivers highly emotional engine sound—a signature of the AMG® brand.
Both models are scheduled to arrive in the U.S. in March. Pricing has yet to be confirmed, but based on the track records of Mercedes-Benz and AMG® we’ve no doubt both models will be worth every penny.
